Inner Child Healing: Effective & Practical Steps to Re-Parenting

Inner child healing and re-parenting

Inner Child work is a practice of getting in touch with your subconscious feelings, beliefs, and wounding that may have been stuffed down since childhood. In inner child work, we have the opportunity to re-learn healthy attachment, develop deeper self-trust, notice and resolve “self-sabotaging” patterns, learn how to hold space for intense emotions and re-parent ourselves.

There’s a lot of information out there on inner child work, so I wanted to give you a primer on some basic “ground rules” I set for myself that make inner child work a bit more gentle and effective, as well as 5 core practices/resources I love.

There is no part of you, no feeling or desire or need, that is keeping you “stuck”, only parts that feel unseen, unheard, and unacknowledged. When we feel threatened by one part of ourselves, we set up resistance which makes us feel even more stuck. When we can meet that part (or feeling or behavior) with curiosity instead of forcefulness, a more creative path opens up before us.

  • how inner child work can help heal attachment wounds

  • 5 foundational inner child practices you may not have tried yet

Many of us grew up in environments where we not only didn’t learn how to soothe ourselves when in distress but also didn’t always have someone else there to help us process emotional pain and overwhelming emotions as a child. (..) Inner child work is about being able to hold ourselves through emotional intensity, without identifying with the emotion, nor dissociating from it.
